Air freight of bulky goods is very troublesome for the merchants! Because chargeable weight is not the actual gross weight, but the volume weight, which can be a lot more than the actual gross weight. For some bulky cargo, it is even several times the gross weight! Increased weight will undoubtedly burden the cost. Has model or way to control it?

 

Bulk cargo is commonly known as light cargo, which refers to the relatively large volume and relatively light weight, usually corresponds to heavy cargo. Which products are in bulky cargo? Generally includes outdoor leisure seats, chair, hanging baskets, classical lighting fixture, lamp, LED foam sticks, some light electronic products, mobile phone cases, headphones, accessories, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), car navigation, sponges, luggage cases, handbags, lingerie, cosmetic bottles, packaging boxes, bicycle carbon fiber frames, plush toys, finished shoes, pillows, glasses, high-end clothing fur, some auto accessories, razor, thermos cups, small appliances, decorations, robots, etc. Most are daily necessities.

Let me talk about the formula for calculating volume and weight in air transport.

--Air freight (non-DHL/Fedex/TNT/UPS and other international express delivery), the volume of the cargo m3 (cubic meters) *167, or the volume of the cargo cm3 (cubic centimeters) ÷ 6000, the two calculation results are the same;

 

--International courier, specifically DHL/Fedex/TNT/UPS, etc., the volume of the goods m3 (cubic meters)*200, or the volume of the goods cm3 (cubic centimeters)÷5000, the two calculation results are the same. This result is 20% more than above.

 

If same gross weight, air freight cost is higher for bulky cargo. One of the reasons I saw Amazon rent a plane before is to control the high cost of air freight of bulky cargo. For ordinary merchants, most of them generally do not have enough cargo to support their own leases or to charter flights. Usually they ship by commercial flights together with other cargo. The loading capacity for an aircraft is generally rated. In order to maximize profits, airlines will try to load as much as possible without exceeding the safe weight of the aircraft. So for normal merchants, are there other ways to control it?

 

Of course there is! If you can load heavy and light cargo all together on the same flight in same time, departure airport and arrival airport, there is only one chargeable weight for the whole goods, which will be lower than weight sum up from individual shipment, and then actually bulky billed weight reduced not a little. If the goods belong to multiple different importers, it can issue one master air way bill (MAWB) and corresponding sub air waybill (HAWB) at the same time. Importer can use HAWB for customs clearance at the destination.
