How to deal with tight air cargo space in busy season?

 

Abstract: Airline cargo space from China to Europe and North American is tight in each year 4th quarter and January due to upcoming Christmas and China Lunar New Year holiday, how to deal with if in need quick way? Use railway and Matson shipping line alternative delivery to Europe and United States respectively, priority in airline space and good service carrier, 2 to 3 days earlier entry to terminal.

 

Due to stock preparation for Christmas, the fourth quarter of each year is the busy season for international air transport from China to Europe and the United States. The airlines don’t have enough space to meet sudden and rapid growth of market demand. Under the influence of supply and demand, price of air freight to Europe and the United States has risen all the way. As supplier, airlines can increase price several times a day, and even after space booked. The price is crazy in busy period, even can sell at CNY35~40/Kg (exclude pick up, delivery, customs declaration, applied to general cargo over 100Kg only)... Everyone needs to adapt to market changes. Here, we warmly remind you to know, reasonable and correct response in advance.

 

When happen? -In 4th quarter and January each year, less increment in other time.

Where happen? -From China to Europe and North American, less impact on Southeast Asia.

How to deal with?

1. Medium and long-term plans,

1.1 To know above time and place in advance, try to avoid urgent orders. This is not individual behavior of which airline, but true relationship between supply and demand in whole air freight market.

1.2 Alternatives for the European market, 16~23 days train transit time from station to station can meet some of quick arrival requirements,


1.3 Alternatives for the US market, about 11 days Matson Express line transit time can meet some of quick requirements,

 

2. Space first and delivery preparation


2.1 Space VS price.
It is recommended to occupy space 1 week in advance, space is first and then price. Usually no available space in recent 1 week, it’s difficult to ship soon without advance booking. If wait new price from airline and then book, space will be swiftly occupied. Common process is inquiry, confirmation and then booking. There is much difference, too hard to understand... Honestly if really want to arrange air freight, we hope objective to recognize it. Generally forwarder treats customer on long-term cooperation.

 

2.2 Choose good service airline, avoid bad one

Good service airlines will be faster and more stable, prefer it in busy time. Airline in poor service, is unstable and easy to delay, likely to drop off your KPI. Good forwarder generally can identify and recommend it to customer. Remember to choose good service while not cheap.

 

2.3 Entry to terminal 2~3 days earlier

It needs queue in cargo terminal too, may wait for several hours or even 1 day in busy time. Try to arrival airport as early as possible, if miss, airline has to reschedule.
