How much do you know about THC?

I believe that many customers (buyers, sellers, traders, etc.) who are engaged in international trade know more or less the cost of THC (Terminal Handling Charges). So what is THC and charging standard (is it collected by freight forwarder freely)? Let's discuss it below, and hope to help you in future work.

What is THC? -Necessary handling fee in terminal

Generally refers to the cost of ground handling in terminal. After goods delivered from the shipper, they need to be loaded into air container, airplane, vessel and then arrival to destination. It includes cargo handling fees, storage fees (if over free and required), Forklift service fee (if required), return fee (if required), etc. Due to different names and procedures in different places, here is only general introduction THC in air freight, which is subject to latest standards in each place.

Why happen? - Ensure transportation safety and efficiency

As mentioned above, after goods are delivered, it cannot enter aircraft/ship directly and usually they need to be assembled at the airport and internal delivery to carrier, and so terminal will charge accordingly. For normal goods (non-transportable dangerous goods, temperature control, valuables, carton packaging, etc.), most common thing we see is THC (terminal handing charge). Generally speaking, this usually included in forwarder's quotation. While other happens if needed only, since can’t foreseen it’ excluded in quotation generally, if not happen usually no either. The initial list is as follows:

--Cargo storage fee, generally happens only after over free storage time

--Forklift service fee, generally due to difficulty of manpower to handle pallet packaging/heavy goods and then in need of forklift service

--Return handling cost, due to have to be returned back by various reasons if have
 
--Pad fee, generally caused when unit stress area weight too large to harm aircraft and then in order to disperse pressure to protect transportation vehicle, have to additionally add a pad

--Wrap/strap fee, generally refers to cost of wrapping some trays to ensure that does not scatter in transit for some not solid and stable package (as shown below),

These happen at airport/Terminal and so usually collected by cargo terminal. Who is terminal?? It doesn't matter, understand your problem, because most you contact is freight forwarder, airline and cargo terminal, You are less exposed. For example, this is like the airport terminal when you are flying, but the terminal is for passengers, and the cargo station is for goods. The next time you go to the airport, pay attention to these facilities near the airport. They are just around the airport. Terminal generally charge to freight forwarder, airlines, etc. at first, and then freight forwarder will charge back to customer at cost.

How collect?-By Standard file

Terminal generally sets standard charge lists in advance, and sometimes may needs to obtain approval from the price supervision department.
